#003 - How do you engage your audience in meaningful ways?

Hey Reader,

Have you ever wondered why people spend time on LinkedIn, attend events, join professional associations, or get involved in communities?

โ€‹

โ€‹

It's not just about being there; it's about making meaningful connections and engaging in dialogues that matter.

Why do we engage?

People engage professionally for three primary reasons:

  1. To learn and get inspired.
  2. To be seen and collaborate.
  3. To promote [and maybe sell] their expertise.

Meet the three types of Engagers:

The Aspirers

Seek growth and personal development.

Aim to further their knowledge, skills, and expertise.

Look for industry news, trends, and best practices.

Need opportunities to learn from industry leaders and experts.

The Connectors

Driven by connections and relationships.

Aim to build a strong professional network.

Look for platforms to make strategic connections.

Need job opportunities, mentors, and collaborative projects.

The Impact-Makers

Seek to make a difference, build their reputation.

Aim to leave a lasting impact on their industry.

Look for opportunities to share their expertise and insights.

Need platforms to position themselves as thought leaders in their field.

How to engage each group:

Having different motivations, each group reacts to different CTAs (Calls to action), but also to different engagement methods. Understanding these motivations is key to engaging each group effectively. Hereโ€™s how:

The Aspirers

  • Conduct surveys to understand their learning preferences.
  • Offer skill-based learning sessions and expert-led workshops.

The Connectors

  • Use event registration data to tailor networking events.
  • Foster mentorship programs and themed discussions.

The Impact-Makers

  • Gather insights on their expertise through detailed surveys.
  • Launch community-driven projects focusing on social impact.

Here is ONE interactive engagement example:โ€‹
Transforming website visits into interactive experiences

โ€‹

One method I've implemented is transforming website visits into interactive experiences. Check out the conditional survey on my website (it's a constant work in progress).

Itโ€™s designed to uncover the top challenges organizations face in audience engagement.

Participants receive immediate feedback and can view collective responses.

How it works:

  • The survey is anonymous and provides instant feedback.
  • Participants can see aggregated results, promoting transparency and learning.

Your turn:

Engaging our audience isn't about broadcasting โ€” itโ€™s about creating a dialogue.
